Most AAC include text labels as a rule but for many early users this is wasted space that could allow for larger/clearer symbols and not a remotely useful cue. Conversely, we’ve found in many contexts that supporters/teachers who use symbols every day for years, often struggle with their meaning when the text label is removed.
